Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review has reported that the Pirates have called up shortstop Pedro Florimon from AAA Indianapolis, and sent down pitcher Wilfredo Boscan. They have also designated pitcher Jayson Aquino for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Florimon, this according to Stephen Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The Pirates obtained Florimon as a waiver claim from the Washington Nationals this past offseason. The 28-year-old switch-hitter was hitting .254 with a .707 OPS in 61 games for Indianapolis. Florimon has been an above average defender at short during his big league career, posting a .972 fielding percentage along with a 3.8 UZR/150.
Boscan was recalled for a third time on Sunday after Vance Worley made an unexpected spot start in Milwaukee on Saturday. Just like the two other times, Boscan was never used.
Aquino was claimed off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays back in May. He made 13 starts with the Bradenton Marauders where he posted a 3.78 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP.
