The Pirates have agreed to terms with their first round pick Kevin Newman, this according to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish. The official signing will likely be made on Monday.
Newman was taken by the Pirates with the 19th overall selection out of the University of Arizona. The right-handed hitting shortstop had a strong season for the Wildcats, as he hit .370 along with a .915 OPS. Most draft publications had Newman projected as a late first round pick. ESPN.com’s Keith Law however was very high on Newman, ranking him as the second best prospect in the draft.
