The Pirates have announced that Nick Kingham has undergone Tommy John surgery.
Kingham came into 2015 as the Pirates sixth best prospect according to MLB.com. The 23-year-old right-hander experienced elbow discomfort a few weeks ago during an outing against AAA Rochester. Before the injury, he posted a 4.31 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP and a K/9 of 9.2 in six starts this season for the Indianapolis Indians. Kingham was expected to join the Pirates at some point this year, but instead won’t pitch again until the latter part of 2016.
