After naming Francisco Liriano the National League Comeback Player of the Year yesterday, the Sporting News has named Clint Hurdle the 2013 NL Manager of the Year. With speculation if Hurdle would return to the Pirates after an epic collapse last season, Hurdle returned this year, and lead the Bucs to their first winning season since 1992, by winning 94 games and getting them to the postseason. In addition to the Pirates success in the win column, Hurdle did a good job with the way he handled the extreme defensive shifting the Pirates incorporated this season. Hurdle finished ahead of Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez in the voting, and is the first Pirates skipper since Jim Leyland in 92′ to win the award.
